Screening of The Faces We Lost, a film directed by Piotr Cieplak exploring the importance of family photographs for survivors of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.  Today, 25 years after genocide, many Rwandans remember their loved ones through images of life, not death: a passport or ID card photograph, a snap taken in the garden, a group portrait from a wedding of baptism.  This film explores these cherished images through interviews with survivors.

Following the screening we will have a discussion and Q&A about photography, film and memory with Dusabejambo Marie Clementine and Paul Rukesha.  Dusabejambo is an award-winning filmmaker who assistant produced and directed The Faces we Lost.  Paul Rukesha features in the film and works as an archivist at the Genocide Archive of Rwanda.
